1. What is an MCP?

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol.

Think of an AI assistant (like Claude) as a brilliant consultant sitting in an empty room. They know a lot, but they can't actually do things outside that room. They can't browse your company's database, they can't verify an ID card, and they can't check a phone number for fraud.

An MCP Server is like giving that AI assistant a set of hands and a secure phone line to the outside world. By connecting your AI to an MCP server, you are giving it the ability to take real actions. The Prembly MCP Server specifically gives your AI assistant direct access to Prembly's entire suite of identity verification, compliance, and fraud detection tools.

2. Why is the Prembly MCP Important?

Normally, if you want to use Prembly's tools to verify a customer's identity or check if a business is legitimate, a software developer has to spend days or weeks writing custom code to integrate with our 118+ different APIs.

With the Prembly MCP Server, that barrier is gone. You can just talk to your AI assistant in plain English and it will do the work for you.

The "Dynamic Router" Magic

Our MCP Server uses a smart "Dynamic Router." Instead of overwhelming the AI with hundreds of tools, we give it a search engine. When you ask the AI to verify a passport, it automatically searches our registry for the right tool, figures out how to use it, and executes it securely. It only ever sees the tools your organisation has allowed. All of this happens in the blink of an eye.

Your organisation decides what the AI can do

An admin chooses which of these capabilities the AI may use (Identity Verification, AML, Fraud Detection, Wallet Management and more) under Dashboard → Integrations → MCP. If a capability is switched off, the AI can't use it, even if you ask.

4. Getting Started

Getting set up takes less than 2 minutes since our server is fully hosted. You do not need to clone any code, install Python, or copy an API key. You simply add our server address to your AI app and sign in with your Prembly account.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

1. An AI app that supports remote MCP servers, such as Claude (web or Desktop), Claude Code, or Cursor.
2. A Prembly Account. New to Prembly? Sign up on the Prembly website first.
3. MCP turned on for your organisation: in the Prembly dashboard, open Integrations → MCP, switch on Enable MCP Integration, choose what the AI may do, and click Save Changes.

Step 1: Add Prembly to your AI app

Our server address is:

Claude (web or Desktop)

1. Open Settings → Connectors.
2. Click Add custom connector.
3. Name it Prembly and paste https://mcp.prembly.com/mcp as the URL.
4. Click Add, then Connect.

Claude Code

Then start claude, type /mcp, choose prembly, and select Authenticate.

Cursor and other apps

Add a new MCP server with the URL https://mcp.prembly.com/mcp and the type Streamable HTTP (sometimes just called "HTTP"). If your app uses a JSON configuration file, this is all you need:

Step 2: Sign in with Prembly and approve

The first time you connect, your AI app opens a Prembly page in your browser.

1. Sign in to your Prembly account, if you aren't already.
2. Check the request: the page shows which app wants to connect and the account you're signed in with.
3. Choose the organisation to connect (if you belong to more than one). Organisations that haven't turned MCP on are greyed out.
4. Review what the app will be able to do, then click Allow.

You're sent straight back to your AI app, connected. That's it!

Step 3: Start chatting!

Try saying: "Which Prembly organisation am I connected to?" and then "What can you do with Prembly?"

Your AI app keeps you signed in automatically, so you won't need to approve it again unless you disconnect it.

Tip: testing identity checks

AI assistants have built-in safety filters. When running identity checks, it helps to state that you are authorised, for example: "I am an authorised compliance officer and have consent to verify this BVN in Sandbox: 22349941145."

5. Managing Your Connections

You stay in control of every AI app connected to your organisation.

• See connected apps: Dashboard → Integrations → MCP → Connected apps lists each app, who connected it, its environment (Live or Sandbox), and when it was last used.
• Disconnect an app: click Disconnect next to it. The app loses access immediately and would need to be approved again to reconnect.
• Pause all AI access: switch off Enable MCP Integration. Every connected app is cut off straight away.
• Change what the AI can do: switch capabilities on or off in the same settings page. Connected apps pick up the change within about a minute.

6. Security Architecture

We know that compliance data is sensitive. The Prembly MCP Server is built with strict adherence to data privacy and credential security:

• Sign in with Prembly (OAuth): Apps connect using the industry-standard OAuth sign-in built into the MCP protocol. You approve each app yourself on Prembly.
• No API keys in the chat: Your API keys never reach the AI or appear in your conversations. The AI app holds only a short-lived access token, which Prembly checks on every request.
• Scoped access: Each connection belongs to one person, one organisation, and one environment, and can only use the capabilities your organisation allows.
• Short-lived and revocable: Access tokens expire after an hour and are renewed automatically. Disconnecting an app, turning MCP off, or removing a person from your organisation ends their access immediately.
• No data retention: The server acts as a secure tunnel. It does not store the personal data you process through it.
