The Prembly MCP Server: A Complete Beginner's Guide
Welcome! Whether you are a developer, a compliance officer, or simply someone who wants to supercharge your AI assistant, this guide is for you. We will explain exactly what the Prembly MCP Server is, why it is a game-changer, and how you can connect your AI to it in just a few minutes without writing a single line of code!
- What is an MCP? (The Simple Explanation)
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol.
Think of an AI assistant (like Claude) as a brilliant consultant sitting in an empty room. They know a lot, but they can't actually do things outside that room. They can't browse your company's database, they can't verify an ID card, and they can't check a phone number for fraud.
An MCP Server is like giving that AI assistant a set of hands and a secure phone line to the outside world. By connecting your AI to an MCP server, you are giving it the ability to take real actions.
The Prembly MCP Server specifically gives your AI assistant direct access to Prembly's entire suite of identity verification, compliance, and fraud detection tools. - Why is the Prembly MCP Important?
Normally, if you want to use Prembly's tools to verify a customer's identity or check if a business is legitimate, a software developer has to spend days or weeks writing custom code to integrate with our 118+ different APIs.
With the Prembly MCP Server, that barrier is gone.
You can just talk to your AI assistant in plain English, and it will do the work for you.
You don't need to read complex API documentation.
You don't need to write code to format requests.
You can automate your daily compliance and identity checks just by chatting.
The "Dynamic Router" Magic
You might wonder: "How can the AI possibly remember how to use 118 different Prembly tools?" Our MCP Server uses a smart "Dynamic Router." Instead of overwhelming the AI with hundreds of tools, we give it a search engine. When you ask the AI to verify a passport, it automatically searches our registry for the right tool, figures out how to use it, and executes it securely. All of this happens in the blink of an eye. - What Can You Do With It? (Features & Examples)
Once connected, your AI assistant becomes a fully equipped compliance and security analyst. Here is what it can do for you:
Identity & Compliance Automation
You can verify Pan-African KYC (Know Your Customer) documents like National Identity Numbers (NIN), Bank Verification Numbers (BVN), and Passports.
Example Prompt to your AI: "I am an authorized compliance officer. Please verify this Nigerian BVN: 12345678901 and summarize the results."
Business Verification (KYB)
You can verify businesses, RC numbers, and Tax Certificates instantly.
Example Prompt to your AI: "Can you verify the status of the Nigerian company with RC number 123456?"
AML & Sanctions Screening
Ensure the people you do business with are not on any global watchlists or Politically Exposed Persons (PEP) databases.
Example Prompt to your AI: "Please screen the name 'John Doe' against global Anti-Money Laundering (AML) sanctions lists."
Fraud Intelligence
Check if an IP address, phone number, or email has a history of fraudulent activity.
Example Prompt to your AI: "Check the reputation and fraud history for the IP address 192.168.1.1 using Prembly's tools." - How to Connect to the Prembly MCP
The best part? The Prembly MCP Server is securely hosted in the cloud. You do not need to install Python, download code, or run anything on your computer.
All you have to do is tell your AI client where to find our server (https://mcp.prembly.com/mcp).
Server Details
Connection Type: Web / Custom Connector (SSE)
Prembly Server URL: https://mcp.prembly.com/mcp
Here is how to set it up in popular AI clients:
Option A: Connecting in Claude (Web, Enterprise, or Team)
If your organization uses Claude's web interface with Connector support:- Open your Claude settings and navigate to the Connectors section.
- Click Add connector (or "Manage connectors").
- Choose to add a Custom Web connector.
- Enter the Prembly MCP Server URL: https://mcp.prembly.com/mcp.
- Authentication: If prompted, provide your Prembly API key (you can get this from your Prembly Dashboard).
- Click Save. You're ready to go!
Option B: Connecting in Cursor (For Developers)
If you use the Cursor AI Code Editor:
a. Go to Settings > Features > MCP.
b. Click + Add New MCP Server.
c. Select SSE as the type.
d. Name the server (e.g., Prembly MCP).
e. Enter the URL: https://mcp.prembly.com/mcp.
f. Save and refresh.
Option C: Generic AI Clients
If you use any other AI assistant that supports remote Model Context Protocol servers via SSE (Server-Sent Events), simply add a new server using the URL https://mcp.prembly.com/mcp. Ensure you provide your Prembly API key in the environment variables or headers if the client requires it.
- Security & Data Privacy
We take your data security seriously. When using the Prembly MCP Server:
No Data Retention: The server acts simply as a secure tunnel. It does not log, store, or cache any Personally Identifiable Information (PII) you process through it.
Secure Credentials: Your API keys are managed safely by your AI client and are never permanently stored in chat logs.
AI Safety Filters: Note that AI models (like Claude) have strict Trust & Safety filters. When running identity checks, it is best practice to explicitly state in your prompt that you are authorized to perform the check (e.g., "I have explicit consent to verify this ID...").
